LoZ Spirt Tracks: Link and Zelda Fight Side-By-Side! :O

Well, this is an interesting twist. Video after the break.

Spoiler Warning: This video is of footage showing gameplay of Spirit Tracks and some of the story of the game. Don’t watch if you want to avoid hearing anything about ST prior to its release.

Link and Zelda fighting side-by-side?!

Spoilers! Beware!

Well, this should make for an even better story and some real character interaction that we have barely seen through the series. In ALttP, Zelda talked to Link with her mind. Link wanted to save Zelda. Link’s Uncle said “Zelda is your … … …” … which could mean anything! In Ocarina of Time, they met as kids and then the whole deal with Sheik and adult Link (I’m not suggesting things, just stating what we all know Zelda is Sheik and Sheik is Zelda). Twilight Princess actually started to show the interaction of our hero with the people around him. Midna and Link interacted tons. Even by the end of the game, you could see that Midna had changed her views and had grown along with Link through his trials to save Hyrule the way only that somebody like Link could. And don’t forget the interactions with the kids as well. Nearly endless amounts of joke can be made at the expense of Malo and the success that Malo had with the Malo Marts (he’s roughly five years old ffs!). Looking at this progression of inter-character involvement and interaction from the first games where it was just the Old Man giving away a sword and good advise to actual interaction on a near realistic scale, it makes the idea of Spirit Tracks with Zelda’s spirit being a companion for Link an intriquing idea.

I, for one, hope that the interaction between Link and Zelda is there and in a realistic fashion. By realistic, I mean emotional. Zelda’s sacrifice in Twilight Princess was great, Midna showed reaction.. Link didn’t. :/ A single silent tear would been fitting to match the music and the situation. Especially the music (Midna’s Lament). I’m hopeful that Nintendo and the developers behind Spirit Tracks went risky and made the story emotional. Losing a sister for a giant fffffing bird is OK, but it’s not all that amazing. Well, the giant fffffing bird part is, but I digress. This is a golden chance for Zelda and Link to have feeling for each other that really show the depth of the characters. I liked how Link was shocked, or pissed, or pained to see things happen to Tetra in Phantom Hourglass. They were real and, most importantly, human. Here’s hoping that the emotional involvement like that of Link and Tetra in Phantom Hourglass is continued and becomes a recurring theme in the series. No need to go for a soup opera, but make the emotions match the situation and I’m more than happy to carry along with the story with my heart in my throat.

Plus, this might make the dungeons even more entertaining just because Zelda is the one in the Phantom. Can the Phantom be hurt? Is Zelda hurt when the Phantom is hurt? What happens if the Phantom dies? Could be interesting. =D

End Spoilers!

Well, that should be interesting. Now I can’t wait to play the game even more. Still worried that the train sequences will suck though. Dungeons? Looking forward to them even more. =D
